A deal has been agreed between Malta and Libya to usher in measures and fresh drills to curb the influx of migrants to Europe.

Italy had earlier agreed to provide Libya with five fully equipped Ships to enhance their fight against pirates who continue to facilitate such unwanted practices.

The deal between Valletta and Tripoli is aimed at reducing the number of migrants crossing into Europe,  in 2019 a total of 3,000 migrants crossed the Mediterranean Sea into Europe but the figures have since greatly reduced and this year the total number is 142.

In May, a training course for marine boat officials and the maritime operations room of the Libyan General Administration of Coastal Security was held in Valletta. The course, which was attended by ten members of the administration’s crews, aimed to raise and develop the capabilities of the maritime boat crews, and the joint maritime operations room in various maritime fields.

Bashir is a coast guard who is fully ready to be part of such an exercise that will limit the number of migrants passing through his country to Europe, he hopes the initiation of such joint drills with the Malta government will bring about a radical change to fully putting an end to this plight.

Beppe Caccia an activitist however says  pushing back the migrants back to Libya is against human rights because the world itself knows Libya is not a safe to place to stay in, so the very act of Libya and Malta holding such excercises to fight against migrants influxtation is against human rights in the first place.
