Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin to send six tourists to space this Sunday
Amazon founder announces to resume space tourism program in first flight since 2022
Jeff Bezos spaceflight company Blue Origin has announced to send tourists on a tour outside Earth for the first time since 2022, Space reported.
The mission known as NS-25 will get launched from the company’s West Texas site on Sunday in a live telecast.
The flight will be 11 minutes long and will give space enthusiasts a chance to see the Earth against the blackness of space. They will also get to experience a few minutes of weightlessness.
The journey will be carried out on the company’s New Shepard vehicle which consists of a rocket and a capsule, both of which are reusable.
The rocket will land vertically back to earth sometime after lift-off while the crew carrying capsule will return back after making its journey through space with the help of a parachute.
The capsule will carry six civilians including a 90-year-old sculptor, who made history in 1961 by becoming the first ever Black astronaut candidate in the United States, although he was never selected.
NS-25 will be the 25th New Shepard lift-off to date. However, it will be just the seventh crewed launch for the vehicle, which also conducts robotic research missions.
The last space flight carrying tourists by Blue Origin took place in August in 2022.
