At the Suncorp stadium, the French women’s national soccer team triumphed against Brazil in a thrilling encounter in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women World Cup.

Eugenie Le Sommer opened the scoring 17 minutes into the first half steering home a close range header. It was a lone goal affair in the first half. The second half started with much intensity from the Brazilians side and they got their reward 58 minutes into the second half with a goal from Debinha finding the back of the net after Kerolin’s shot had been deflected into her path.

Captain Wendy Renard’s header seven minutes from time earned France a dramatic 2-1 win over Brazil  on Saturday as they picked up their first win in Group F of the Women’s World Cup.

Renard met Selma Bacha’s corner with a firm downward header that bounced back up off the turf and beyond goalkeeper Letícia to give the French all three points after opening their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Jamaica last Sunday.

France had to rely on veteran Sommer who wasn’t picked for Euro 2021. She proved her worth in this game.

France put itself in a commanding position to reach the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup after earning a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brazil thanks to Wendie Renard’s late header.

Though the match was living up to its billing as a blockbuster clash, with both sides continuing to attack in search of a winner, Renard appeared unmarked at the far post to head Selma Bacha’s corner past Letícia to see France through with a 2-1 victory.
