Louis Van Gaal claims Messi won the 2022 World Cup because it was rigged for him. The Dutch coach sparked social media with the aforementioned comment on the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The coach who led the Netherland national team at the World Cup stated that some of the games of the World Cup were predetermined.

The assertion, as damaging as it is, came as a shock to many football fans across the world and especially fans of Messi.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to their first-ever World Cup trophy since 1986, beating defending champions France in an energy-sapping final at the Lusail Stadium on December 18.

Messi and his men had to endure a traumatic first game defeat to Saudi Arabia in their first group game.

Argentina had to defeat Netherland in the quarterfinals in a controversial match which ended 2-2 with Argentina winning in the penalty shootout 4-3.

In a publication, the coach stated:

“”I don’t really want to say much about it. When you see how Argentina gets the goals and how we get the goals and how some Argentina players overstepped the mark and were not punished, then I think it was all a premeditated game,” said van Gaal, as translated from a quote by Dutch publication NOS.

The former Manchester United stepped down from his position as Dutch national team coach with Ronald Koeman taking his place.
