Harry Styles’ Mom Calls Out ‘Irony in Negativity’ Over Singer’s New Buzz Cut: ‘I Don’t Get It’
Anne Twist shared on Instagram that it didn’t make sense for someone with a “legacy of kindness and inclusion” to get so much criticism for a “haircut”
Harry Styles’ mom, Anne Twist, has had enough.
Twist took to Instagram on Friday morning to call out the criticism her son has received since debuting his bold buzz cut days ago — specifically pointing to the fact that he’s built his brand on kindness and acceptance and he’s not getting it in return right now.
All over a haircut.
“When you consider that H has a legacy of kindness and inclusion, has always made every effort to make everyone feel seen and appreciated for exactly who they are … there’s an irony in the negativity he’s been shown for having a haircut. Sorry but I don’t get it,” she wrote. She finished her caption with the hashtag TPWK, which stands for treat people with kindness, a catchphrase that has come to be synonymous with Styles and his work.

Though Styles’ new buzz cut was first teased last week when the “As It Was” singer was seen with Taylor Russell at a U2 concert in Las Vegas, the full unveiling in all its glory came just days ago when Styles’ brand Pleasing shared a photo of him on Instagram.
While celebrating the brand’s fragrance launch — as well as pop-up shops in New York, Los Angeles and London — Styles, 29, modeled a new sweater from his brand and his new haircut. Though some people have chosen to be rude about Styles’ new choice of hairstyle, plenty of diehard Harries left glowing comments for the singer, drowning all of that out and amplifying his TPWK message.
This is far from the first time Twist has jumped online to defend her son and his work (she also has a daughter, Gemma Styles). Just last year, Twist used Instagram to respond to people criticizing his film Don’t Worry Darling, also starring Florence Pugh.
“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” she wrote on her Instagram Story last year. She added, “I’m astounded and saddened by the vitriolic comments on here to be honest. I enjoyed a film. If it’s not your cup of tea don’t go…”
And if we want to throw it way back to Twist being an absolute mama bear, there was a time when a fan threw a Red Bull can at Styles while he was performing at a One Direction concert in 2015 and hit him in the head, and she was understandably not happy about it.
