Seahawks Player Jamal Adams Criticized for Mocking a Reporter’s Wife in a Tweet, Called ‘Garbage’

Jamal Adams is in hot water.

The Seattle Seahawks player, 28, is facing scrutiny after he mocked a reporter’s wife in a since-deleted tweet.

The incident began when Connor Hughes, a journalist for SNY, retweeted a video of Adams mid-game as he played opposite Dallas Cowboys safety Jake Ferguson while the latter scored a game-winning touchdown.

Hughes, who covers the New York Jets and Giants, captioned the post shared on X, formerly Twitter: “Yikes.”

In response, Adams shared a zoomed-in picture of Hughes’ wife Brie and posted the same caption the reporter used to criticize his play, according to Sports Illustrated.

Though Adams ended up deleting his initial social media post, NFL fans still reacted and called out the athlete for his mean-spirited tweet.

“Taking cheap shots at people doesn’t change the fact that he’s been a disaster with the Seahawks and the Jets have been a better defense without him,” one user said.

“This makes you look like an ass,” one other commentator wrote.

“Jamal Adams left New York 3 years ago as an immature loser. Nothing has changed 3 years later. Garbage,” commented another X user.

Added one more: “You’re a clown bud.”

Adams also appeared to react to the situation with Hughes in another tweet which remains on his account, writing, “Don’t start nothin won’t be nothin.”

Then, after one fan wrote that Adams was “doubling down on it smh,” the NFL star responded, “I ain’t doubling down on nothin. I stand 10 toes with it. Bro made a helluva adjustment on the ball last night and made a play. Salute. It’s the NFL.”

Adams later retweeted a post from one user, which read, “I don’t know why media members think they can constantly scrutinize and personally demean, belittle, and antagonize players with no repercussions. It’s all “business is business,” until it’s not. So understand, players are real people too.”

Both Adams and Hughes did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
