Washington provides additional $250 million to Ukraine Farmers.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine over a year now, millions have fled the country and food has become a major concern, the grains are on the cards but they are unable to supply them to needy countries due to Russia’s defiance to weaponize food.
After Moscow opted out of the grain deal on Monday, the international community deems it unfair for any country to use food as an excuse, to weapon food for that matter in a time of war seems greedy.
Speaking in the port of Odesa, Samantha Power said the investment, via a USAID initiative, focused on Ukraine’s agriculture sector, would aim to boost agricultural infrastructure and expand other export routes.
She also called on other governments and the private sector to match the U.S. investment with another $250 million to help farmers “under attack” from Russia’s policies and boost Ukraine’s economy in the long term.
“We have a collective interest in ensuring that Ukrainian farmers stay in business,”
An additional $2.3 million worth of equipment was given to help the emergency services agency to repair damaged infrastructure.
