Andre Onana: Manchester United’s new goal stopper.

Manchester United has  signed Onana for an initial £43.8 million in 2 contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has kept 104 clean sheets in 255 club appearances.

He won three league titles and two KNVB Cups with Ajax before joining Inter in 2022.

Last season, he won the Coppa Italia and recorded the most clean sheets in the Champions League.

The goalkeeper who had issues with the Cameroon national team coach Rigobert Song during the 2022 Qatar World Cup due to his style of playing which stems from possessing the ball and initiating attack from the 18 yard box.

He spoke highly of Manchester United and his plans for one of the giants in the the English Premier League.

According to him, joining Manchester United is an incredible honour and he has worked hard all his life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way..

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.” He stated with great pride.

He spoke of the fact that Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and he is inspired to create his own legacy in the coming years.

“I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.” He added.

Onana joined Barcelona’s youth system in 2010.  Signed for Ajax in 2015, where he made 214 appearances and won three Eredevise titles. On a free transfer in July 2022, he joined Italian club Inter Milan where he won Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in his sole season at the club and reached the Champions League finals losing to Manchester City.

His record as a player for the Cameroon national team after his disagreement with head Rigobert Song at the 2022 World Cup is impressive. He made 34 appearances for his country from 2016 to 2022.
