Amri still not sure about avoiding past mistakes
RAWALPINDI: Mohammad Amir, who faced ban and harsh penalties for his role in spot-fixing during 2010 away series in England, Sunday said ‘to err is human’ and he cannot guarantee any repeat of mistakes he had committed earlier in his career.
When asked by a sports scribe as to whether he could say that Amir would not repeat mistakes he had committed previously, he said he could not guarantee that. “No one could guarantee that. To err is human as I am not in a position to guarantee anything like that. We can only try and that is in my power.”
The left-arm pacer admitted that a lethal combination of pace bowling is in the making. “With Shaheen and Naseem, I think we can form one of the best fast-bowling combination. Pakistan is lucky to have such a pace attack going into the World Cup. The onus is now on us to perform to the satisfaction of Pakistani fans. Hopefully, the best efforts will be made to win the Cup. My effort will be to contribute in the best possible way to see Pakistan bowling to its best ability.”
Amir praised the bowling combination for making an early impact in the series. “All the bowlers bowled well in the second T20I following no result in the first. Our management is trying different combinations with one eye on the World Cup. By doing so we would be in a better position to pick the best combination for the World Cup.” New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, who also spoke to the media in a post-second T20, rated Pindi’s pitch as low-scoring one.
“It was 130-run wicket more because of the heavy rains, ball was coming on the wicket. Had we scored 130 while batting first in the second T20, we had good chances of making our mark.”
Sodhi added that in the absence of some of the key players who were busy playing IPL, the new-look New Zealand team was eager to make an impact. “We would make our best efforts to make an impact in the series. Though the majority of our players did not play much international cricket, they are capable of making an impact on the international stage. It is just a matter of a few matches and they will start firing on all cylinders.”
He also praised Pakistan bowling for making an early impact. “Don’t forget that Pakistan have one of the most lethal attack around. They are a very good bowling side and have proved that on numerous occasions.
The leg spinner who also spoke a bit of Punjabi in between praised Pakistan security, saying the team was enjoying their stay. “We are having a good time here. Security is excellent and so is the hospitality.”
