Andre Onana is proudly poised to represent Cameroon once again announcing the end of his hiatus from international football.
The former Ajax goalkeeper who signed with Manchester United during the just ended summer transfer window had a disagreement with the head coach of the Cameroon national team Rigobert Song during the Qatar 2022 World Cup which resulted in his decision to leave the tournament and later announced his retirement from international football.

The news came as a shock to many football fanatics especially Cameroonians across the world due to the fact that he’s one key player in the team and they simply couldn’t afford to lose him.

The newly signed Manchester United goalkeeper took to his social media account to announce the end of his hiatus from international football and his strong decision to represent Cameroon once again.

In a statement posted, he stated:

“In the world of football, as in life, decisive moments arise that require crucial choices to be made.

“In recent months, I have been confronted with trials marked by injustice and manipulation. Yet my unshakeable love and attachment to my homeland, Cameroon, remain intact.

“My desire to represent my country has never wavered since my youth, and this aspiration remains an inseparable part of my identity. Nothing and no one can shake this conviction.

“I answer my nation’s call with unshakeable certainty, aware that my return is not only to honour my dream, but also to respond to the expectations and support of Cameroonians, who deserve a national team determined to shine.

“In the face of manipulation, lies and abuse of power, I choose to remain true to my ideals, proudly representing a country that deserves our sincere commitment. Now is the time to unite, to work in harmony for our common good: Cameroon.

“I would like to salute the government, which is working hard to build a better Cameroon for all.

“My thoughts are with the people of Cameroon, to whom I offer my infinite thanks for their support, and whom I look forward to seeing again.

“Time, the infallible judge of all things, will eventually enlighten us and reveal the rightness of our actions. My commitment to Cameroon remains unwavering, and I am determined to play my part in seeing it prosper.”

This is not just an exciting development for the people of Cameroon but for African football. This helps to maintain more great African footballers in the continent’s football which will help to attract more foreign football fans to football in Africa. Onana is a pillar in the English Premier League with a lot of the English and European media attention on his career hence, his decision to feature in the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the tournament, will attract the foreign media, scouts et cetera to Africa’s flagship tournament and eventually football development in Africa.
Many people who are not privy to African football would love to know more about it, which would bring more attention on the philosophy of African football, its players and the players returning to their motherland would always remind them where they are from. Not forgetting the fact that, players of his caliber are capable of attracting many people to stadium with their star power and influence which would translate to revenue for organizers, hence Africa needs more players of his caliber to feature in games on the continent.

The boy from the village of Nkol Ngok located in the centre region of Cameroon, once again wants to wear the colors of Cameroon and represent his country with every blood of patriotism in his body.

He is set to feature in Cameroon’s encounter with Burundi in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers on Tuesday during the international break.
