Bayern Munich hold Arsenal to 2-2 draw in Champions League quarterfinal
The Champions League quarter-final first-leg match between Arsenal and Bayern Munich ended in a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium.
The second leg will begin in Munich on Wednesday, 17 April.
Tottenham’s record goalscorer, Harry Kane, returned to north London, where he scored a goal for Bayern.
The Gunners got off to a flying start. Bukayo Saka’s early strike gave Arsenal the lead, but Bayern quickly responded with a goal from former Gunner Serge Gnabry just six minutes later. However, Bayern, despite their recent struggles in the Bundesliga, managed to equalise the score six minutes later with a goal from former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry.
The game took a turn when Arsenal’s William Saliba tripped Leroy Sane, leading to a penalty. Kane, amidst the jeers from the crowd, confidently converted the penalty, marking his 15th goal against Arsenal in 20 appearances.
Arsenal, not at their best, managed to pull back an equaliser thanks to substitute Leandro Trossard, who capitalised on brilliant play by Gabriel Jesus. Despite a late equaliser from Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard, tensions ran high as the Gunners felt they were denied a penalty in stoppage time.
The second leg will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday, 17 April. Manager Mikel Arteta will look to rally his team for the second leg, knowing they can perform better.
Bayern, with their rich Champions League history and experienced players like Sane, Gnabry, and Davies, will be the favourites. However, Arsenal, who have shown they can perform better, will be hoping to upset the odds.
