Dolly Parton launche global casting call for lead role in upcoming Broadway musical

Dolly Parton announced an online casting call for her next Broadway production, Dolly: An Original Musical on Thursday.

“Whether you’re chasing your dreams from a small town or you’ve spent years performing on stages across the country, I want to give you a chance to help me bring my story to Broadway — and maybe even play me,” Parton said in a YouTube announcement.

“This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way.”

Parton emphasized that the search is open to all, “whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something.”

The one requirement: “We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey.”

In addition to posting their records online and using the hashtag #searchfordolly, the singer encourages interested singers to apply for an audition at dollymusical.com. The casting director of the show will meet with the finalists for an in-person audition.

In June, Parton announced that her musical will be titled Hello, I’m Dolly. Along with a script by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter, who created Parton’s Christmas in the Square movie, the play will have a score of Parton’s well-known songs as well as brand-new songs she wrote specifically for the musical. Bartlett Sher will direct.

Parton, who composed the Tony-nominated score for the musical adaption of 9 to 5: The Musical, will be making a sort of Broadway comeback with the production.
