Movies are created with the help of dedicated crew members and one of those numerous crew members is a director. A director, through actors, brings flesh to the story on the big screens and that’s exactly what the director of the billion dollar movie “Barbie”, Greta Gerwig did.

The movie of the summer “Barbie” which recently surpassed “Super Mario Bros” becoming the highest grossing movie at the box office this year, was directed by Greta Gerwig.

Greta had some stints with other directors, co-directing movies before she started doing solo projects. On “Hannah Takes The Wheel” which came out in 2007, she was a co-director and “Nights and Weekends” in 2008.

Greta’s career as a director working on solo projects started with her 2017 coming-of-age movie “Ladybird”. It was her solo directorial debut which many critics and fans were so much impressed with. She wasn’t just the director, she wrote “Ladybird” about a high school senior and her complex relationship with her mother. After its theatrical release in the United States on November 3, 2017, the applause came from critics, fans et cetera who had great reactions to the movie. The movie went on to garner five nominations at the 90th Academy Awards including Best Director. That same year at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, “Ladybird” won two awards, Best Motion Picture ( Musical or Comedy) and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.

Such an impressive accomplishment with a directorial debut was enough to tell everyone that she’s in this for more greater works and it definitely didn’t come as a shock to those who have seen her works from the beginning when “Barbie” became the darling project on the big screens chalking up success after its release.

Greta Gerwig’s work on “Barbie” has made her the first female director to gross over $1 billion worldwide. She was born to direct and it was pretty clear with “Ladybird” and now she’s cemented her name as one of the greatest female directors of her generation with the fantasy comedy “Barbie”.
