Gunna is confirmed to not be taking the stand in Young Thug’s ongoing RICO trial but Birdman still remains on the witness list.
Gunna, who previously accepted a controversial plea deal in the case, will not be called to take the stand after the judge ordered the prosecution to cut down on the number of witnesses they planned to question.
There were originally over 700 named witnesses put forward by the state, but now only around 200 could be called to take part in the trial.
Gunna’s name was removed from the revised witness list, as was Lil Wayne‘s and Thug’s brother Unfoonk, who was previously sentenced to over nine years in prison.
Notable names that may also still be called to testify include Cash Money co-founder Birdman and Thug’s previous close collaborator Rich Homie Quan. YFN Lucci is also on the witness list.
Gunna has faced numerous accusations that he snitched on Young Thug to secure his plea deal, something he has repeatedly denied.
On his recent Offset collaboration “Prada Dem”, he continued to hit back at the claims, rapping: “I set the trend, I’m a trendsetter/ I’m not a rat, still gettin’ cheddar.”
The Drip or Down hitmaker entered into an Alford plea in December 2022, meaning he pleaded guilty to a single racketeering conspiracy charge while maintaining his innocence on that same charge as a form of self-preservation.
He was also subsequently released from jail following his arrest in May of that year, while Thugga remained behind bars without bond.
Following his plea deal, Gunna attempted to set the record straight: “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” he said in a statement following his release from jail.”
Many, including fellow rappers such as Lil Durk, Lil Baby and Jim Jones, have been vocal about their criticism of the rapper’s decision.
