Il Divo to Release XX: 20th Anniversary Album in February: ‘It Shows Our Growth’ (Exclusive)
Get ready, Il Divo fans! The iconic quartet’s newest album now has a release date.
On Friday, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Il Divo’s newest record, XX: 20th Anniversary Album, is set for release on Feb. 9. Their first single off the album, a spin on Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” is also dropping on Friday.
The group, which consists of Urs Bühler, Sébastien Izambard, David Miller, and new member Steven LaBrie, includes songs in English, Spanish and Italian.
The 10-track album will include an original composition titled “Despertar Sin Ti,” Brenda Lee and Elvis Presley’s “Always on My Mind,” sung in English and Italian, and a Spanish version of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” (“No Tengo Nada”).
“When you listen to XX, we hope it takes you on a journey between modern music and opera,” Izambard, 50, said in a press release. “We’ve kept our voices intact, but our singing has evolved. It covers a wide emotional spectrum and shows our growth. We’re not complacent; we’re really stepping into the moment.”
Bühler, 52, added, “Whether you’ve been with us for 20 years, 10 years, five years, or a few hours, we want you to be moved by the music. This is an album that has the right to stand next to everything else we’ve done. After all of this time, we haven’t lost any of our love, passion, depth, strength, or power. Instead, we put as much blood, sweat, and tears into it as possible—maybe more.”
Earlier this month, the group surprised fans with a Christmas EP, A Merry Little Christmas. They’ll also be spreading holiday cheer on their A New Day Holiday tour, kicking off on Nov. 29. at Ferguson Center for the Performing Arts in Newport News, Virginia, continuing through Dec. 23 in Naples, Florida.
Tickets for the tour are available at: https://ildivo.com/tour-dates/. The 20th anniversary album is available for preorder here.
In August, Il Divo announced that nearly two years after Carlos Marín died of COVID-19, the band was officially welcoming singer Steven LaBrie to the family.
“It just fit right in, in everything. He was always a breath of fresh air. It’s wonderful. I count myself and ourselves incredibly lucky that we found him to come and join us,” Bühler told PEOPLE exclusively at the time.
When Marín fell ill, the band called up LaBrie, 35 — whom David Miller, 50, had kept in touch with after meeting 10 years ago — to temporarily fill in.
“Steven was still on board for everything that we were throwing at him… being a guest artist in the middle of what was just going to be a continuation of a tour into this really heavy thing that dropped. The bombshell had just gone off,” Miller said. “He was there for us in that capacity to just be a shoulder and a voice to lean on.”
After they performed show after show together, the band said “it became quite obvious” that LaBrie was the right choice and the audience started “warming up to him.”
“We really want to make this official now. It’s kind of like when you are engaged for 10 years and then you finally want to get married. It’s a very important step,” Bühler said. “He’s just a wonderful person. He’s so easy to get on with. He’s always got a smile on his face. He’s always positive. He’s so lovable. And I always think we’re incredibly fortunate because obviously he’s a fabulous singer. Steven really just fits that bill.”
