She came, saw and conquered; the story of Danielle Williams who won Women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Hungary.

Danielle achieved this milestone eight years after she last claimed world victory in Beijing in 2015. After her impressive record in 2015, she’s struggled to attain any world title and that jinx was broken yesterday 24 August when she won the 100m hurdles.

She was given a close challenge by the Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn whom she defeated with 0.01. Danielle won the hurdles with 12.43 seconds making the victory Jamaica’s first gold medal in Budapest. The many Jamaicans fans couldn’t hide their excitement and pride.

Danielle shared her thoughts on her new feat:

“I still don’t believe I won against such a stellar field,” Williams said after the race. “I’ve been racing these ladies all year and they have been kicking me left, right and centre. But I had such confidence in my training and my abilities that I never stopped believing.

“When I won in 2015 it was unbelievable. But this took a lot of hard work, a lot of years of toil and injuries, and losing my confidence and battling to get back to this stage.

“It’s awesome, Jamaica is a proud country and we love to win. I love to win.

“I came out here knowing I could win,” Danielle stated.

Keni Harrison of USA, former world record holder came third with 12.46 seconds.
