Japan vs Sweden: Who makes it to the semifinals?

Asian giants Japan will face Sweden on Friday for a showdown to determine which of the two teams will book a place in the semifinals of the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Japan came into the tournament with a dream to lift their second World Cup in twelve years and so far there’s no sign of a plot twist in their script.

Sweden also had a plan to push through every blockade in their way and they exhibited their level of resiliency when they faced the United States of America in the round of 16.

It was a thrilling encounter with a lot at stake. The Americans were looking for the opportunity to protect their reputation as the defending champions and at least revenge their 2021 Olympic Games defeat to Sweden. But Sweden had other plans and unfortunately the USWNT has to exit the tournament joining big names like Germany and Brazil.

Japan on the other hand dismantled Zambia and Costa Rica in what looked like a walk in the Park in their opening two games. Top brown the two games, they won against Spain 4-0 for a place in 16th round. The Japanese wasted no time in getting the results they wanted by beating Norway 3-1 in the round of 16.

Should Japan qualify to the semifinals, that will be Japan’s third time in the semifinals.

The current top scorer of the tournament, Miyazawa will be looking forward to adding more goals to increase her chances of winning the top scorer award.

The two teams have stood the test of time and this is an opportunity once again to keep their dreams alive.
