Keanu Reeves reveals: ‘I didn’t write any of my new novel’
Keanu Reeves moved to tears by China Mieville’s debut novel draft
Keanu Reeves has shared his heartfelt experience collaborating on his latest literary venture, The Book of Elsewhere.
Teaming up with renowned British ‘weird fiction’ author China Miéville, Reeves, known for his iconic roles, including the BRZRKR comic series, confessed he didn’t write any of the novel himself.
Instead, he entrusted him with the creative reins, a decision that stemmed from his desire for another creator to explore the story’s depths.
Reflecting on the profound impact of the author’s work, Reeves recalled being moved to tears upon reading the first draft.
In an interview with The Guardian, he expressed, “I didn’t want to write the book. I wanted another creator to take that journey.
So, ultimately, China has written the novel. I didn’t write any of the novel.”
Released on July 23, The Book of Elsewhere delves into the saga of an immortal warrior grappling with millennia of existence, seeking to unravel the mysteries of his endless life.
Their creative journey began with a face-to-face meeting in Berlin back in 2021, followed by intensive Zoom sessions to refine Miéville’s initial draft.
Reflecting on the emotional impact of his narrative, Reeves enthused, “I was like, I’m reading a ‘BRZRKR’ China Miéville novel! Yeah!
What, what, what? And then like, why am I crying? Why am I feeling so much? And then what is that? And then? Wait, I need to like … what’s that f****** word? Oh, yeah. Great.”
