Kevin Costner recalls meeting young Matt Damon, Ben Affleck
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were just extras on Kevin Costner’s 1989 film ‘Field of Dreams’

When Kevin Costner first met Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in 1989, they were just young, aspiring, starry-eyed actors who were cast as extras in his movie, Field of Dreams.
Despite the long passage of time, the 69-year old Hollywood star was able to recall the moment clearly during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.
“I did remember it,” Costner told host Kimmel when he asked about the infamous story. “They were sitting in the stands, like college guys.”
He then playfully mocked Damon and Affleck’s acting, sharing, “And they would both lean in at the same time, lean back at the same time, look at each other at the same time.”
Kimmel then whipped out a text he received from Damon, now 53, who shared his own recollection of their first meeting.
“I literally had an Untouchables poster on my wall,” Damon admitted in the text message, indicating that he was always a fan of Costner’s work.
Damon recalled, “[Costner] came out and hung round with the extras between set-ups. I asked him what he was doing and he said, ‘Shootin’ the s***.’ And I laughed like a 12-year-old girl.”
Damon further reflected about meeting Costner, “It was a big deal for [me and Affleck] because he had the exact career that we wanted. He was very nice to us.”
