King Charles Is Marking His 75th Birthday Next Week With This Special Project
Plus, a tea party with others turning 75 this year!
King Charles has a special birthday present for his country.
He is kicking off an innovative program to combat food waste and put it to better use for those in need.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will spend part of his 75th birthday on Nov. 14 launching The Coronation Food Project, so named as it is launching in the year they were both crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Charles’ idea, the palace says, “seeks to bridge the gap between food waste and food need.” It will operate across the United Kingdom “helping people and helping the planet,” his office says.
The couple will spend part of the day visiting touring a surplus food distribution center outside London. The royal couple will meet staff and volunteers and hear about “the ways food waste can be used for social good. ”King Charles is a well-known conservationist and the initiative fits in with his ethos. He even uses bioethanol made from wine and cheese to power his Aston Martin DB6 Volante sports car, which he had converted in 2008. Before the birthday celebrations, Charles and Camilla, 76, will lead the royal family and the country in the commemorations of war dead with a series of services around Remembrance Sunday.
On the eve of his landmark birthday, King Charles will visit his country home Highgrove House, where his educational charity The Prince’s Foundation is hosting a party. King Charles will be joined by specially invited fellow members of his generation who are also turning 75 this year for afternoon tea and live music.
There are also celebratory events at Dumfries House in Cumnock, Scotland.

Most recently, the Duke of Sussex traveled to London to attend the WellChild Awards in September, which also included a visit to his grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s burial site in Windsor Castle on the first anniversary of her death. King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Scotland for the anniversary, while Prince William and Kate Middleton marked the occasion in Wales. Source: people.com
