King Charles delivers landmark speech during first day of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

King Charles delivered a historic speech at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
The monarch began his statement by remembering his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II and his grandfather, King George VI, for their sincere commitment towards the Commonwealth.
Moreover, the King of England addressed the ongoing “global tensions and horrifying conflict” across the world, he said to the Commonwealth leaders, foreign ministers and dignitaries that, “[It] seems to me that these connections between us are more precious than ever.”
King Charles added, “Together we are wiser, stronger and more able to respond to the demands of our time.”
At the Tuanaimato Sports Complex, His Majesty acknowledged that no one has the power to “change the past,” but we can learn valuable lessons from it.
Charles shared that “we must find the right ways to address it” and “the Commonwealth can discuss the most challenging issues with openness and respect.”
While concluding his speech, the King, who is battling cancer, said, “For my part, I can assure you today that for however many years God grants me, I will join you and the people of the Commonwealth on every step of this journey.”
