Late Queen Elizabeth’s Love for Chocolate: Former Royal chef spills sweet secrets

The late Queen Elizabeth’s well-documented love for chocolate has been described as a defining aspect of her sweet preferences.
Former royal chef Darren McGrady, who served the Royal Family for 15 years, shared delightful insights into the Queen’s fondness for desserts, especially chocolate-based treats, in an interview with Hello! magazine.
McGrady revealed that the Queen was an unapologetic “chocoholic,” always favoring dishes featuring chocolate, particularly her beloved chocolate perfection pie. Among her favorite indulgences was the chocolate biscuit cake, which held a special place in her heart and remained strictly reserved for her enjoyment.
“The chocolate biscuit cake is different,” he explained. “She has a little slice. It comes down to the kitchen and then we keep it safe because it has to go up again tomorrow. And it goes up again and again and again and again every day until it’s all gone. Definitely her favourite cake.”
The chef added that the Queen’s daily tradition of afternoon tea included a selection of cakes like lemon or ginger, along with sandwiches such as smoked salmon or cucumber—always served without crusts.
“She is absolutely a chocoholic,” McGrady remarked, encapsulating her love for chocolatey delights.
