Manchester City and Real Madrid Champions League clash ends in 3-3 draw
Manchester City and Real Madrid battled to a 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
In the beginning of the game, Bernardo Silva, from Manchester City, outwitted the Madrid defence with a 25-yard free-kick in the second minute. However, Madrid quickly retaliated with two deflected goals, one from Eduardo Camavinga and the other from Rodrygo.
Despite Manchester City’s dominance of ball possession, they struggled to find the net until Phil Foden stepped up. The English midfielder found an opening and delivered a stunning shot into the top corner, levelling the score.
City’s momentum continued as Josko Gvardiol, the left-back, scored his first goal since his transfer from RB Leipzig. But the lead was short-lived as Federico Valverde from Madrid equalised with a spectacular volley, ensuring the match ended in a deadlock.
Manchester City faced late concern as Foden suffered an ankle injury.
The stage is now set for an exciting second leg at the Etihad Stadium on April 17th, where City triumphed over Madrid in last season’s semi-finals. Manchester City aim to capitalise on their home advantage to secure a spot in the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive season.
Manchester City sidelined Kevin de Bruyne due to illness. City now have the opportunity to advance to the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive season.
