Princess Anne resumes public duties after health scare

Princess Anne has honoured her commitment to the Royal Family following a health scare earlier this year.

The 74-year-old Princess Royal was admitted to Southmead Hospital after sustaining a concussion from a horse-related accident at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

She spent five nights in the hospital before being discharged. As a result of the incident, several scheduled visits to organisations in Hampshire were cancelled.

A Palace spokesperson told GB News at the time: “On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed.

“Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

After gradually returning to her public duties, which included appearances at the Paris 2024 Olympics in July, Princess Anne has resumed a busy schedule. On Tuesday, she completed her rescheduled visits in Hampshire.

In her role as President of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), the Princess Royal officially opened the renovated clubhouse at Warsash Sailing Club.

The newly extended Shore House features a viewing balcony overlooking the River Hamble, a spacious meeting hall, two bars, and a fully catered galley.

Princess Anne shares a long-standing passion for sailing, following in the footsteps of her late father, Prince Philip. During a visit to the Isle of Wight in 2021, she revealed that she first took up the hobby on a Bloodhound yacht.

Known for enjoying sailing trips with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, she often cruises in a Rustler 44 Ballochbuie around Scotland. In a previous interview with RYA Magazine, she expressed her love for the sport.

The royal said: “For me, it’s important to have time away and sailing really is time away.

“It gives you a complete change from anything you’re doing and from my perspective, having a boat on the west coast of Scotland gives me two things – time away and in an attractive area.”
