Queen Camilla battles chest infection and cancels engagements this week

The Royal Family has announced that a lesser-known member of the Firm will step in for Queen Camilla during her engagements this week as she battles a chest infection.

The Duchess of Gloucester is stepping up in the Royal Family’s time of need, having already undertaken an impressive 111 engagements this year.

To ensure the royal duties continue, Gloucester will step in to represent the Queen at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

Birgitte, 78, is a Danish-born member of the British Royal Family, married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who is a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, Camilla has withdrawn from her duties, including a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes hosted by King Charles.

The 77-year-old is currently resting at home under medical supervision, with no further details about her condition or treatment disclosed.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that she hopes to recover in time for the upcoming Remembrance events.

A palace spokesperson stated, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, and with great regret, she has had to withdraw from her engagements for this week.

However, she is hopeful of recovering in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as planned.”
