Ryan Reynolds shares his experience raising kids in the public eye after complex father-son relationship

Ryan Reynolds is making a surprising confession about the future of his children as he reflects on the couple’s stardom.

The Deadpool star, who shares four children with his wife and Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about raising their children in the spotlight.

Speaking exclusively to the outlet, Ryan explained how he aims to give his children – James, Inez, Betty, and Olin – ‘as normal a life as possible.’

“I try not to impose upon them the difference in their childhood to my childhood or my wife’s childhood.

“We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, like: ‘Oh God, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid’, or: ‘I never would’ve had this luxury of getting takeout’, or whatever.”

The 48-year-old star, who has established himself as a leading name in the industry with starring roles in films like Deadpool and Wolverine, revealed that the couple has ensured their kids develop a strong sense of empathy.

He further went on to add, “Those are the things that I would think [would indicate] we’re doing an OK job – if our kids can empathise with other people and other kids.

“But yes, it’s different. When I was a kid, you would just suck it up, get out of the house and be back by sundown, which I just can’t even imagine now.”

In an interview with Variety, Reynolds previously described his relationship with his late father, who battled Parkinson’s disease for nearly two decades, as “very complicated.”

The actor concluded the conversation by noting that he came from a working-class family, saying, “It’s never been the same” for him.
