Self-accountability: Army to probe housing society case

ISLAMABAD: Pursuing self-accountability, the Pakistan Army has instituted an inquiry under a major general on the issue of a private housing society near Islamabad airport.

In November last year, the owner of a private housing society, Kunwar Mueez, had filed a constitutional petition under Article 184/3 of the Constitution with the Supreme Court against six intelligence officials, including the former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.

On November 11, 2023, a bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa and comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minullah, heard the petition. Kunwar’s lawyer had contended that the agency officials committed crimes against his client on the instructions of Faiz Hameed. The lawyer stated the secret service personnel with the Rangers officials raided the house and office of Kunwar Mueez, detained him and his family, took away jewellery and a huge amount of money. False cases were also filed against Kunwar and his family to pressurise them, he had added.

During the hearing, the additional attorney general had said the petitioner had other legal avenues for the redress of his grievance. However, on the apprehension that it was hard to get a reprieve because of the officials’ status, the attorney general assured the court that if Kunwar Mueez applied to the defence ministry, the case would be dealt with according to the law. On the assurance, the court had disposed of the notice.

According to sources, Kunwar Mueez had approached the defence ministry in January this year and an inquiry committee was formed under the a major general.
