‘SNL’ Writer Expertly Mocks Morgan Wallen’s Abrupt Show Exit
The country singer ignited backlash when he seemingly walked off the “Saturday Night Live” stage too early.
Morgan Wallen’s quick exit from “Saturday Night Live” quickly snowballed into a very meme-able moment.
The country singer performed on the show Saturday, and then darted off the stage while the credits were still rolling, after giving host Mikey Madison a quick hug.
“Get me to God’s Country,” Wallen posted shortly after his departure on his Instagram story, alongside a picture of a private jet.
Many social media users noted that the cast of “SNL” was standing very far back behind Wallen on stage, a subtle hint that all might not be well with the controversial singer.
“SNL” writer Josh Patten posted a reference to Wallen’s Instagram story, with the words “get me to God’s Country” alongside a photo of a Krispy Kreme truck.
When outlets picked up Patten’s comments and wondered if Patten liked Wallen, he pointed to an image that showed the country singer was one of his most-streamed artists in 2023.

Another cast member, Chloe Fineman, alluded to bad behavior on Wallen’s part by liking an Instagram post from Deuxmoi that referenced the singer’s reported “on-set meltdowns.”
This isn’t Wallen’s first brush with controversy at “SNL,” as he was disinvited from the show in October 2020 after he violated COVID-19 protocols. He later joked about the incident during his appearance in December 2020.
In 2021, he faced a larger controversy when a video surfaced of him shouting a racist slur. The incident led to brief backlash, but increased professional success.
“I was around some of my friends, and we just say dumb stuff together,” Wallen said some months later during an interview with “Good Morning America.” “In our minds, it’s playful. It sounds ignorant but that’s really where it came from, and it’s wrong.”
