Sweden have done it again, an impressive performance five days after knocking four time champions USWNT for a quarter final clash with Japan. On Friday, it was an epic match which brought out the best in the two teams. Japan proved to be a force to reckon with but Sweden survived every obstacle for a semifinal encounter on Tuesday against Spain.

Sweden had to survive the skin of their teeth in a crucial penalty shootout against United State.

Sweden has replicated what they did in the quarter finals of the Tokyo Olympics which saw them in the gold medal match and unfortunately lost to Canada.

Though Japan’s run in the World Cup has come to an end, they’ve written in their names in the history of this year’s World Cup with the team’s impressive record.

A goal from defender Amanda Ilestedt gave Sweden the lead with her fourth goal of the tournament in the 32nd minute with Filippa Angeldal adding the second from the penalty spot which came just after the break.

Japan did everything, but Sweden held on to the lead.
