It was the type of race which was so intense with the level of rivalry between USA and Jamaica in both world athletics championships and the Olympics.

After Richardson was passed the baton, she was closely challenged by Shericka Jackson with a narrow lead but she didn’t succumb to the pressure from the Jamaican; leading USA to victory. The crowd went wild with excitement.

Richardson couldn’t help it but shared her thoughts on the victory :

“It feels amazing along with these ladies to do what it is that we’ve been training to do, no matter what may be put out there, we know what we need to do,” she stated after the race. “We all had a common goal and that was to come out here and win.” She revealed.

The Jamaicans who claimed the silver medal acknowledged the strength of the US team, “They were very tough” Shashalee Forbes of Jamaica stated.

“We’re not disappointed, it was a great race,” Forbes told reporters. “They were very tough. We went out to deliver and we are happy and pleased with what we got.”
