USA women’s soccer team wins over Vietnam was written in the stars.
One of the 8 debutants at the FIFA Women World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023 is Vietnam. With the experience the US team possesses, it was indeed a hurdle for the debutant Vietnam to overcome.
The Americans are one of the most feared teams in Women’s football and it’s always evident when they face any opponent.
The US had a scarcely believable 28 shots to none by Vietnam, and could have easily run up a bigger scoreline.
However, thanks to a well-organised and tenacious defence by Vietnam, the women in red were able to see out a more appealing 3-0 loss.
The US bossed the match as they were expected to.
Two goals from Sohpia Smith and a goal from Horan helped the Americans in making a good statement in their first game at this World Cup. Sophia made no mistake in the early minutes of the first half finding the back of the net in the 14 minutes. In the dying minutes of the first half with added time of 7 minutes, she got her first brace at the tournament.
As if that wasn’t enough, in the second half, Vietnam defended viciously against the Americans but in the 77th minute, Horan added the third goal making it 3-0 at the end of regulation time.
Most pundits and football fanatics predicted a win for the Americans considering their record at such tournaments and the depth in their squad which is far better than Vietnam’s quality.
