USWNST qualifies to the knockout stage of the ongoing World Cup.

The four-time World Cup Champions meandered their way through a scoreless draw against Portugal for a place in the round 16th at this year’s World Cup. The US team needed a win or a draw to avoid being eliminated in the group stage for the first time ever at a World Cup or Olympics.

The team had a great win over Vietnam but had to settle for a draw when they faced the Dutch team in a thrilling draw game. They needed anything but defeat.

The US Women Soccer team have beaten the Portuguese team of its previous 10 meetings prior to this game.

There’s a high probability that the US Women Soccer team are going to face old nemesis Sweden in the round of 16. 

And they’re going to need teamwork in their style of play which has not been evident for h their group games. They would be going home if not got the near post. Portugal’s Ana Capeta unleashed a corker early in second-half stoppage time and it ricocheted off the post, saving the USWNT to play another day. 

So many questions for the team to answer from its defensive setup to its attacking prowess and the knockout phase is a time for them to correct their mistakes.
