Why did Johnny Depp reject the $20Million Offer from Disney to consider a return to Pirates Of The Caribbean?
When Johnny Depp’s former wife Amber Heard pressed charges of domestic assault against the ace actor, the cancel culture buttons were also religiously pressed against him which created a dent on his reputation, brand and took the spotlight from his acting prowess because he was painted as someone who abuses his wife.
Cancel culture is when an ecosystem decides to blacklist someone due to certain things they don’t deem appropriate. Some of the things that could make the gatekeepers in an ecosystem press the cancel culture buttons are rape allegations, domestic assault, misogyny allegations, antisemitic comments et cetera and other things that are deem a dent on humanity.
On the back of the aforementioned, Hollywood took a stand against Mr.Depp when his former wife accused him of abusing her. Walt Disney Pictures who owns the rights to the blockbuster movie “Pirates of the Caribbean “ wasted no time in denying Mr Depp the role of playing the star of the movie “Captain Jack Sparrow “ which he’s been so superb at over the years and according to inside sources, it broke the heart of Mr. Depp. Due to his ex-wife’s allegations, Disney fired the actor and announced Depp would not return to the sixth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean”, and, instead, the lead would be portrayed by Margot Robbie in a spin-off of the original franchise.
After weeks of deliberations in court and cross examination after cross examination, the jury arrived at a verdict that Mr. Depp was innocent and he was not guilty of the charges. This decision was backed by a video evidence which showed that Mr Depp was provoked a million times by his then wife but never laid a finger on her. It was more like a worldwide jubilation for the fans and those who love Johnny Depp because of the fact that he was proven innocent.
The crux of the story is, right after he got back his innocence from the court of law and the court of public opinion, Disney decided to reach out to him to consider playing the role of “Captain Jack Sparrow” which they denied him the chance to do it due to the domestic violence charges and the people at Disney offered him a huge amount of $20million to return to the franchise but he rejected the offer.
Upon thorough analysis, one can boldly say he did so because when he was accused of the domestic abuse in 2016 by his ex- wife Amber Heard, Disney did not stand by him; they fired him and as a human that might’ve caused him some psychological trauma and might’ve felt betrayed by Disney.
Johnny Depp is an American actor and a musician who dazzles the world with his acting prowess.
