The wife of “Fairytale of New York” singer, Shane MacGowan, is asking for “love and prayers” for the star.
On Tuesday, Victoria Mary Clarke shared a hospital photo of her husband MacGowan, 65, who was diagnosed with viral encephalitis in 2022, according to Sky News.
“I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has been messaging me and @ShaneMacGowan,” Clarke, 57, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Clarke also went on to thank MacGowan’s The Pogues bandmates Terry Woods and Spider Stacy for visiting him in hospital.
“Love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now hang in there!” she added.

MacGowan — who found major success during the 1980s with the Irish Celtic punk band — is reported to have been in intensive care since his diagnosis with viral encephalitis, per Sky News.
According to the Mayo Clinic, encephalitis is inflammation of the brain that can be caused by such things as a viral infection, bacterial infection, autoimmune inflammation and insect bites.
On Saturday, Clarke shared another post of her kissing MacGown as he lay in the hospital bed. “Love ❤️ is the most beautiful and powerful thing that we can experience as humans but love can also feel painful especially if you are afraid of losing a person or anything else that you love 💗,” she wrote in her caption.

MacGowan and Clarke tied the knot in 2018 after an 11-year engagement, according to The Irish News. They have also been together for almost 40 years.
Earlier this month, MacGowan shared a snap from his Instagram page to mark the birthday of his friend, singer Tom Creagh. “Happy birthday to the great Tom Creagh a living legend and a wonderful friend ❤️,” MacGowan wrote as he posed for a selfie with Creagh.
In May, the Pogues frontman was also visited at his Dublin, Ireland home by Bruce Springsteen — a moment that Clark described on Instagram as “monumentally inspiring.”
