World number 1 Carlos Alcaraz wins Wimbledon title defeating reigning champion Novak Djokovic in an epic showdown.
It was an atmosphere of heartbreak, tears and laughter at the Wimbledon final on Sunday between World number one Carlos Alcaraz and reigning champion Novak Djokovic in what was described as an enthralling performance of sheer determination, athleticism and courage.
Sunday’s finals saw the 20yr old tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz do what most of his peers can only dream of which is to go toe to toe with one of the best in the history of tennis and not just that, but cementing his name as the third youngest to win the Wimbledon title in the Open era.
It was a night where both of the two talents wanted to put their names in the history books not only the headlines. The Serbian talent , Novak Djokovic was aiming at equaling a record by Margaret Court and Roger Federer which couldn’t see the light of day due to the resiliency of the 20year old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz who also had his own story to tell and to put his name in the hall of fame.
Novak Djokovic was dreaming of leveling a record by Margaret Court for the most grand slam singles titles of all time. Margaret Court is considered one of the greatest in the history of tennis for his impeccable record of 24 major singles titles and total of 64 major titles, 19 major women’s doubles and 21 major mixed doubles titles which are the most in tennis history.
Djokovic was looking at equaling the 24 major singles since he currently holds 23 major singles which didn’t happen yesterday.
Margaret Court’s record wasn’t the only record the Serbian was looking at, he had his eyes fixated on Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles which he ( Djokovic) currently has seven which he won last year.
Regardless of the aforementioned records which were some of the key motives Djokovic went into the finals with; Like the young Andalusian boy in the Alchemist book by the Brazilian Author Paulo Coelho, Carlos Alcaraz had his own history to make, generations to inspire and dreams to achieve which he just had to overcome the hurdle of defeating who was the reigning champion Novak Djokovic.
